Challenge Family’s flagship race sells out in a matter of seconds. Now athletes competing in Challenge full or half distance events around the world have an interesting chance to earn a spot at the largest and perhaps greatest full distance triathlon in the world.

How can you win one of these slots? Well, that is a bit unclear. However, finishing first in your age group will not help. According to a Challenge press release, “the slots will not be awarded based on performance. Instead they will be awarded through athlete engagement with the individual Challenge Family races around the world, allowing everyone a chance to take advantage of this offer.”

According to the press release 10 slots will be “available” at each half distance and 15 at each full distance race. It was unclear if that meant that every available slot will be awarded. That seems like a big number to me.

Slots will go to the athletes who are judged the best ambassadors for the event they are racing at. This could be through their social media activity, charity fundraising or other activity as defined by the individual races.

In other words, brace yourselves for an onslaught of tweets and other social media posts about how wonderful Challenge is. It is unclear whether or not months of bashing WTC and glorifying Challenge via twitter will be enough to earn Dark Mark a slot. He is planning to race Challenge Atlantic City.

“We’re excited to increase the opportunity to race the legendary Chellenge Roth for our loyal athletes and also increase our engagement with them,” said Challenge Family CEO, Zibi Szlufcik. “We want to ensure that athletes of all abilities are able to enjoy the memorable life experience that is Roth – who can forget the roar of Solar Hill or the unequalled spectacle of the finish line? We look forward to working with all our races to making the dreams of triathletes around the world come true!”
